Laos Style

Over the break between terms, Liz and I got to visit our friend Tan's village in Laos. It was about a 15 hour trip to get there and 12 hours back by bus. I won't bore you with all the details of our journeys there or back but I'd like to share some photos from the trip. Liz brought her digital camera along and it definitely came in handy!

Tan and I. The river behind us is where we bathed every day, right next to the ducks!

We played "Do this, Do that" with the kids--a simplified version of "Simon Says"

The weather was nice and warm the entire time we were there--happy winter!

We got to give stockings to all the kids filled with toys we purchased in Bangkok.  It was a joy to see them play with their new toys! We gave hair bows to the girls, toy cars to the boys, squishy globe balls and stationary sets to all the kids.

Liz and I standing next to the village sign. Neither us knows what the village is called in English.

Tan was such a helpful translator for our time at the school!

Sitting on the floor in Tan's house. It was like we were staying in a treehouse!

The kids loved all the treats in their stockings, especially the candy!

Tan's family lent Liz and I sarongs to wear around the village. They were comfortable but a bit hard to manage #wardrobemalfunction

Tan cooked us our favorite Thai dishes like Chicken Fried Rice and introduced us to some new Laos style dishes like Laos noodles!

The building you see in the background is their Buddhist temple. Tan is the only Christian in the entire village.
